So we all assumed that the new solo Wolverine movie, simply called The Wolverine, was a post X-Men Origins sequel and a pre-first X-Men film prequel. But in an interview with Empire, Wolverine director James Mangold suggested that the opposite might be the case:
Where this film sits in the universe of the films is after them all. Jean Grey is gone, most of the X-Men are disbanded or gone, so there’s a tremendous sense of isolation for him.
So it takes place after X-Men: The Last Stand? Interesting. That would certainly fit with the rumor that Famke Janssen was flying to Australia to cameo in the film as Jean Grey. At the same time though, leaked photos and videos have shown a scene set in a World War II Japanese prison camp. Perhaps these are flashbacks? Regardless, Mangold says it’s all part of his plan:
That’s something that for me was very important, that I land in a very specific place in his timeline. I wanted to be able to tell the story without the burden of handing it off to a film that already exists and having to conform to it. The ideas of immortality reign very heavily in this story and the burden of immortality weighs heavily on Logan. For me that’s such an interesting part of Logan’s character that is nearly impossible to explore if you have a kind of league or team movie.
In other Wolverine news, Empire had the below picture from the film, and it features everyone’s favorite mutant wild man with bone – yes, BONE – claws. Check it out:
The Wolverine is set to open in theaters on July 26, 2013.

There are some set pictures making their way onto the Internet today that show two of the villains from the upcoming James Mangold directed The Wolverine movie starring Hugh Jackman. We get a first look at both the Silver Samurai (Will Yun Lee) and (Svetlana Khodchenkova) Viper.
Let’s get right to the pictures:
The only troubling aspect that grabs me is Svetlana’s blonde hair. Viper has green hair and lipstick. Perhaps she makes that transition in the movie so I’m not gonna nerd rage, knock over my monitor and throw my bag of cheese puffs across the room.
The (back) of that Silver Samurai costume looks ass kicking, I can’t wait to see the fight scene between Wolverine and the Silver Sammy. I can hear the metal clanging, spark throwing, fight in my head now.
Get your thoughts out in the comments section below. Are you pumped for this movie or expecting another Ho-Hum yawner like the last one?

Sure, we’ve all seen the leaked shots from the set of James Mangold‘s The Wolverine showing off Hugh Jackman looking – once again- ripped to the core. We get it, he’s the pinnacle of masculinity. One thing, though, those leaked images never confirmed if Jackman’s shorter hair style was official.
Now the first official image of The Wolverine has been released by 20th Century Fox, which is based on the Chris Claremont and Frank Miller‘s 1982 limited series. And, judging by the first look, Logan is keeping the much shorter locks – Oh joy.
I for one actually welcome the new look. Not the veined out shirtless Logan. That’s always impressive to those of us that get their exercise from a Wii fit. It’s the hair… it no longer looks like it’s going to spread wings and fly.
There’s no real details you can get from this other then he’s in a temple and adamantimum claws mean shit is about to go down, look’s like a blast so far.
The Wolverine is scheduled for release July 26th, 2013.
