Touhou Project: Cirno

Ok, guys? Thank you so much for flooding me with this year’s Comiket pictures. There are so many that I really have no idea who the real source of the pictures are, so please do let me know if you’re the photographer or the cosplayer and I will gladly link back to your site, thank you!

And I will feature as many as I possibly can, too!

touhou project cosplay - cirno from comiket 2009

Or Cirno would be very mad at me.

She is the stage 2 boss of Touhou Project, the ice fairy that lives on the lake surrounding Scarlet Devil Mansion. Don’t let her cute looks fool you, as her hobbies include freezing frogs and watching them revive as they thaw out. That is, if she doesn’t shatter them to pieces first.

Awesome cosplay… and it would be nice to see the Hiiragi Tsukasa and Hiiragi Kagami’s photos too, if anyone has it?

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi: Nagato Yuki 03

The quiet, taciturn bibliophile of Suzumiya Haruhi’s SOS brigade, Yuki is an artificial human created by the Integrated Data Entity who is sent to observe and prevent Haruhi’s godlike powers. She hardly ever says anything, but whenever she does, it usually lacks emotion. Yuki is a rational thinker and finds it hard to communicate with other humans due to her intelligence and lack of empathy.

Another pretty cosplayer from this year’s Comiket! Again, if anyone knows who the photographer or cosplayer is, please let me know so I can properly credit them. Thank you so much for your contributions!

Fate/Hollow Ataraxia: Caren Ortensia

fate/hollow ataraxia cosplay - caren ortensia

A member of the Church and Burial Agency, Caren is a kind-hearted priestess who believes her only purpose in life is to help others. When she is hurt, she does not blame the individual who hurt her, but places the blame on demons. When she is at fault, she apologizes to God and not to the person she was wronged.

Strangely enough, despite her projected kindness, she loves exploiting other people’s weaknesses, antagonizing them to the point of humiliating them. She also deliberately wears her priestess robes without the skirt to seduce men.

That is one scary priestess. And yes, I know she’s suppose to have white hair, but that has never stopped me from featuring cosplayers like her. Awesome job!

Bleach: Lilynette Gingerback

The young, female fracci n of the Primera Espada, Coyote Starrk, Lilynette Gingerback is depicted as short-tempered and vocal, often showing emotions that Coyote does not. Coyote is the Espada that represents “Loneliness” but prefers to be surrounded by friends, even going to the point of pretending to be weak as weak ones don’t have to fight by themselves. It was through this grief that Lilynette was born.

She is also the one who holds Coyote’s power instead of a zanpakuto like the rest of the Espada. When they combine into Los Lobos, Lilynette is one of the guns Coyote wields.

It would be difficult to cosplay Lilynette in an actual convention, that’s for sure. So I guess there will only be private photo shoots for this cosplay. Nice job!

Ouran High School Host Club: Fujioka Haruhi and Ootori Kyouya

ouran high school host club cosplay - fujioka haruhi and ootori kyouya

The “Natural Type” and the “Cool Type” may not always meet eye to eye, but despite Kyouya’s harsh actions towards Haruhi, he truly does care about her as she does him. When the club went to the beach for some rest and relaxation, Kyouya pretended to be the “bad guy” in order to show Haruhi how worried everyone was about her.

This is so in character that it really makes me laugh! Mother is reprimanding her youngest child! But don’t tell Kyouya that, he might charge me for posting this picture. Haha! Great work!

Hellsing: Sir Integral Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing

hellsing cosplay - sir integral fairbrook wingates hellsing

At the young age of 12, Integra inherited her family’s mission to the lead the Royal Protestant Knights and protect England due to her father’s death. Arthur Hellsing had hoped his brother, Richard Hellsing, would support his daughter in this mission, but his jealousy got the better of him and he proceeded to hunt Integra and kill her.

Little did he know that Arthur had a corpse of a vampire in the Mansion’s Sub Levels, Alucard, who became Integra’s salvation and servant.

Wow, she’s so intimidating! I guess Alucard making her wait doesn’t make her happy? The wig’s a bit messy, but I still like the overall look. Great work!

Soul Eater: Franken Stein

soul eater cosplay - franken stein

Considered to be the most powerful meister to graduate from the Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA), Stein views the world as his own place to experiment, which makes him fight his own insane urges to dissect everything. He’s even experimented on himself, placing a giant bolt though his own head, which he occassionally turns while thinking.

You can’t get any more insane than this guy, I think. Beautiful cosplay with a beautiful location too! Thanks to Potato Chips for sharing this!

Fate/Stay Night: Saber 03

sate/stay night cosplay - saber 03

During the 4th Holy Grail war, Emiya Kiritsugu forced Saber into destroying the Holy Grail by using a Reiju, also known as a Command Seal. Saber would not obey him because she wanted the chance to redo her life so that worthier person could rule her country in her stead.

It was only when Shiro, Kiritsugu’s foster son, became her master that she was able to accept her life for what it was rather than wishing to change it.

I think the hair may have been photoshoped a bit from the looks of it, but I still think this is a rather beautiful cosplay of Saber. Not everyone can manage to pull her off, after all. Thank you so much for emailing this, Shiro-kun!

Legendary Pictures ‘Godzilla’: Up Close and Personal at SDCC

BPWqYiPCUAAXhGF-1

According to Deadline, SDCC will be offering fans their first one-on-one look at the “Elvis” of Kaiju: Godzilla (Gojira), King of the Monsters, as rendered by Legendary Pictures for their upcoming version of the classic film.

Comic-Con will be transforming a section of downtown San Diego into a devastated Tokyo street scene-a mini theme-park they’re calling the Godzilla Encounter:

We wanted to do something for the fans to give them a look at the legacy of Godzilla and a sense of the movie

Says Legendary president Jon Jashni.

The image above is the new Godzilla himself-the Monster King you’ll get to see personally at SDCC. I, for one, am quite pleased with the design-though I would have given a thumbs-up to ANYTHING that helped me forget Roland Emmerich’s 1999 abortion…..

Emerald Knights Unite! Who Will Be Joining ‘Arrow’ in Season 2?

glga-tpb2

First of all, “Emerald Knights” is a thing, right? I mean, I remember reading that in a comic book at some point in reference to the dynamic duo of Green Arrow and Green Lantern. Or maybe it isn’t. But if you intend on re-using it, please credit me.

Anyway, the reason for all that preamble is that in discussion on who from the DC Comics universe might find their way into the TV world of Arrow in the upcoming second season, the man who would be Speedy, actor Colton Haynes, let slip a possible answer.

While talking to Flicks and the City, Haynes said, “There’s going to be some new characters, I’m sure you guys have read, that are going to be joining, some very very well known characters that have been in prior movies so I think it’s going to be exciting to see.

Prior movies,” he says. Who could he possibly mean? Batman? Superman? Jonah Hex? Naw, the safe money’s on Green Lantern’s Hal Jordan, who, in the comics anyway, is Oliver Queen’s BFF. So the question then becomes, how, if at all, will Arrow, a very realistic take on the Green Arrow, approach the whole thing with the Green Lantern ring and space aliens and the like? Maybe Hal Jordan will just be a cocky fighter pilot that likes the cut of Oliver’s jib, that is to say if it’s Hal Jordan at all.

Maybe we’ll get some more hints at the upcoming Arrow panel at Comic Con, in the meantime, let’s get the lowdown from Haynes himself in the full interview from Flicks and the City.

San Diego Trolley Gets a ‘Game of Thrones’ Dothraki Make-Over

kal drogo

Ah yes, that time is upon us, the time of the great San Diego Comic Con. Like the Garden of Eden for geeks, SDCC features all manner of comics, movies, television, toys and, of course, hordes of loyal cosplayers. The event is so big, in fact (drawing in an amazing 130,000 people last year), that even the city gets in on it, as is evident by what San Diego Trolley has done to their transit signs.

Being as how the trolley has to haul around all those sweaty, costumed convention-goers every year, the trolley has a little fun with it. In previous years they have been known to put up Klingon-language signs, but this year Game of Thrones is the big winner. Those taking the trolley can navigate their way through their stops via the new Dothraki-language signs.

The only question is – is it all accurate? I’d hate to be the one to have to deal with the angry GoT fanboys/girls if it wasn’t.

Oh, and don’t forget to check out Nerd Bastards’ Game of Thrones panel coverage tomorrow.

Thanks to ComingSoon for the pics.

SDCC ’13: Nerd Bastards Goes Inside Comic Con’s ‘Ender’s Game’ Experience

[Editor’s Note: Manny Lozano is one of Nerd Bastard’s embedded, roving, San Diego Comic Con journalists who will be pounding the convention center floor all weekend to bring you the very best Comic Con has to offer. From panels to the showroom to the off-site entertainment, we’re covering it all. First stop, Liongate’s Ender’s Game Experience!]

The Ender’s Game Experience at this year’s Comic Con brings you into the fantastic sci-fi world of the action film based on the best selling novel by Orson Scott Card, which lands in theaters this November 1st.

The exhibit showcases a variety of props from the film, including weapons and gadgets, as well as pieces of the actual sets from the Battle School in which much of the film is set. Several of the costumes worn by the film’s lead actors were also on display. Stars Asa Butterfield and Hailee Steinfeld were both on hand to kick off the festivities.

After walking through the exhibit, Con goers can enter to win a 3D printer like the one featured in the film and can receive a dog tag to get their picture taken in the Battle Room. I had to indulge.

Harrison Ford Finds Himself at the Center of ‘Ender’s Game’ Controversy

Ender's Game (2013) trailer HARRISON FORD (Screengrab)

I think you have to feel sorry for anyone who has to go to Comic Con and front for Ender’s Game this weekend. The can of worms that the author of the original book Orson Scott Card following the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act is still fresh, and naturally, the cast of the upcoming movie has asked to answer for Card’s comments on the subject.

The scene was the press room at San Diego Comic-Con Thursday afternoon, and the player was acting legend Harrison Ford. Now, Ford can be somewhat prickly, but when asked about Card’s comments, and whether or not the author’s opinions influenced his decision to be a part of the film, he was very eloquent.

After deadpanning, “Is that question for me? That’s great,” he continued, “I think none of Mr. Card’s concerns regarding the issue of gay marriage are part of the thematics of this film. He has written something that I think is of value to us all [in] considering our moral responsibilities. I think his views outside of those that we deal with in this film are not an issue for me to deal with, so I have really no opinion on that issue. And I am aware of his statements admitting that the question of gay marriage is a battle that he lost, and he admits that he lost it.”

After a pause, Ford added, “I think we all know that we’ve all won, that humanity has won. And I think that’s the end of the story.”

When asked about the more specific themes of the book, Ford assured fans that when they see the movie they’ll recognize that the deeper moral lessons of the novel have been kept intact.

“This movie I think is very prescient, and I think the novel was very prescient, in recognizing something that we now have as a reality in our lives, which is the ability to wage war at a distance – and to do the business of war somewhat emotionally disconnected from it,” he explained. “So the morality of that military commander, and the military command structure – the morality of a society which raises a military and wages war – are the moral concerns of this film. They are something we are wrestling with daily in our lives. The issue of having interplanetary warfare is a science fiction aspect of it, but what gives it such emotional tone and reality is that these are the concerns of our everyday lives.”

There’s been a lot of talk about protests by LGBT groups concerning the film, and while I don’t think Ford doused that fire entirely, I think he spoke well and reminded everyone that Ender’s Game has nothing to due with gay marriage or civil rights, and deals with a whole other bailiwick and that perhaps we should keep Card’s comments, both inside and outside the particular text, as separate issues.

Ender’s Game opens November 1st. We’ll have more from Comic Con as it develops.

Good: ‘Dead Space’ Movie in the Works – Bad: ‘Street Fighter The Legend of Chun-Li’ Writer Involved

DeadSpace

I’ve found EA’s acclaimed space-survival-horror franchise Dead Space 1, 2 and 3 to be immensely entertaining and mildly challenging. They offer amazing graphics work, good story lines, intense kills and a decent amount of scares. All 3 games are nail biting, ear thumping, nerve freezing experiences. Engrossing, to say the least.

Now, could this space shock-opera translate to film? I would think so. It plays out like horror movie, so why the hell not? Oh, and those animated movies were pretty gruesome and scary. They worked, why not a real movie then? On the other hand, video game based movies have never had any success beyond being background noise while couples make with hanky panky. They keep the $5 or under bin at Walmart in business. So, right there, I would say leave it alone. Don’t dare try to make a live-action movie out of it. What’s that you say? Justin Marks, the writer of Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li is reportedly signed on to draft the script of the feature adaptation with I Am Legend’s Neal Moritz on board to co-produce the film. Oh, fuck! Let a necromorph kill me now.

At a Comic-Con panel about video game adaptations, Marks said the film shouldn’t be 100% faithful to the game in its execution, saying instead: “You would be making ‘Event Horizon’ or ‘Alien,’ I’ve already seen that movie.” Marks went on to say say the filmmaker should strive to tell the main character’s story in a way designed for the film medium.

Alright, I agree that Dead Space does play out a little like Alien, but that doesn’t mean the source material should be ignored. The characters, creatures and story are completely their own. Also, Alien and Event Horizon – those films are dated. Dead Space is a new survival horror for the current generation. A stupid comment like “I’ve already seen that movie” is example of what a hack writer Justin Marks is.

Minus Marks being involved (*bangs head against wall*) there is a glimmer of hope that a Dead Space movie could play out the way we fans would expect it to. While no director has been locked, Horror master himself, John Carpenter has expressed much interest in adapting the property in the past, saying: “I maintain that ‘Dead Space’ would just make a great movie because you have these people coming onto an abandoned, shut-down space ship and they have to start it up and something’s on board. It’s just great stuff. I would love to make ‘Dead Space’ [into a film], I’ll tell you that right now. That one is ready-made.”

I pray to the church of Unitology that Carpenter gets involved.

At this time, EA is farming the script and will then look to get backing from a studio. No Dead Space movie, at least for a while.

SDCC ’13: The Sights of Comic Con – Day One

IMG_2529

[Editor’s Note: Yesterday, Shawn Schillberg, one of our on the ground reporters, wandered through out San Diego Comic Con capturing photos of the sights. There’s a little cosplay and a little bit of the off site activities surrounding the convention center. In the slide show below I’ve pulled out only a taste of what he saw, like the Silver Samurai’s armor from The Wolverine on display in Petco Park. Or The History Channel’s Vikings setup where you can row a viking ship. OR the dozen or so Axe Cops wandering around promoting the upcoming FOX series. Yeah… there’s a lot of stuff you’ll wanna see in here. Hit the jump for the full gallery.]

SDCC ’13: “In Memoriam” Video From ‘Game of Thrones’ Panel & That Time GRRM Crashed the Stage at w00tstock; Plus Neil Gaiman!

gotpanel

While San Diego Comic Con has again remained resistant to live-streaming any of their panels, with today’s ability to easily record video and social media, quite a bit of what goes on at the Con becomes available online, whether officially or not. Here I’ve got a few videos which will definitely be of interest to any Game of Thrones fans unable to attend SDCC. The first comes from the Hall H panel where earlier today was streamed a tongue in cheek “In Memoriam” video of all those who’ve lost their lives over the seasons. Set to Boys II Men.

Something about that soulful R & B tune really makes all that senseless character death hit home.

On Friday night the nerdy, vaudevillian, comedy music show, w00tstock took place and while the duo, Paul & Storm were performing their Game of Thrones tune, “Write Like the Wind,” about author George R.R. Martin and how he must write faster, someone crashed the stage! And smashed their guitar! It was GRRM! Then Neil Gaiman showed up, and well, you’ll just want to watch this for yourself.

And from a backstage angle,

We here at Nerd Bastards are determined to continue bringing you the best Comic Con has to offer, keep it here!

BATMAN ARKHAM CITY Life-Size Statue by Studio Oxmox

We recently did a post here at the BAT-BLOG.COM where we reported about the BATMAN ARKHAM CITY Video Game Launching Event in NYC. It was held at Toys-R-Us & had a few surprises. One of them was an extremely cool Life-Size Statue they had of Batman. It was very detailed & sort of hyper-realistic looking. Plus, it looked EXACTLY like the character in the Video Game, very very cool! Well later on, at Facebook, we were talking about it a little bit & a friend said he knew who made it.

The statue was created for the event by a company called STUDIO OXMOX. I researched their website & they make a HUGE amount of movie promo items & statues. Their work is really great! If I ever win the Lottery, I will probably call them up & buy everything they make( of course, right after I call the guy who makes 1966 Batmobile Replica Cars, ha ha! ). Here’s a LINK to view their beautiful Comic/Movie Art, just click HERE!

The BAT-BLOG.COM Joins The Future!

Long Time Readers of the BAT-BLOG.COM might have noticed a new graphic element on the site today, we plastered a QR-CODE Symbol on our side-bar ( the right-hand side ). It’s one of those weird “Barcode Squares” you see a lot now a days. The way it’s used is, if you have a Smart Phone ( Apple iPhone, Android, etc ) or Apple iPad Tablet, you take a picture of it. Then, your device can read it & save the information that is embedded inside. This one here has the URL for the site, http://www.bat-blog.com

Last night a few friends of mine all tested it with a nice variety of machines & they all pretty much said that it works really good, whew! So, if YOU have a device where you can do this then we want to invite you to do the same. Thanks!

CUSTOM BATMAN CAR – Fantasy BATMOBILE Replica in Thailand!

This is a quick post to share some really fun photos from our Good Friend BAT-CAT. He lives in Thailand & it seems he is always going to some BATMAN Toy Exhibit somewhere. Yeah, I’m jealous, ha! Here is an event at a Thailand Shopping Mall. It was called, “THE PARADE OF COLLECTIVE ITEMS FROM THE MOVIES”. There, they had this amazing BATMOBILE Fantasy Replica Car. OK, I call it a “Fantasy Car” because it’s not an actual replica of a “real Batmobile”, but one that the Custom Car Designer dreamed-up. Check out the photos, especially the shot of the interior. This car is very detailed and looks like a lot of fun! ( Thanks for the great pics Bat-Cat! )

CATWOMAN WALLPAPERS – Michelle Pfeiffer From 1992 BATMAN RETURNS Movie

MEOW! Presented here, for your viewing pleasure, are 3 Beautiful CATWOMAN WALLPAPER Backgrounds to brighten your day, and your PC Desktop! But this isn’t the brand-new “Anne Hathaway” version we’re all going to see in the next 2012 Batman movie, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. No, this is the “Michelle Pfeiffer” version of Catwoman From the 1992 BATMAN RETURNS. Of course, this was the sequel to Tim Burton’s 1989 film & directed by him. I have always thought that this movie was actually pretty decent & between the 2 Villains in that film I felt Catwoman was a little better. OK, way better, PURRRRR!

Oh yeah, HEY! If you’re looking for other Catwoman images as “Desktop Wallpaper” then please be sure to check the Bat-Blog Archives because we have many other versions.

BATMAN 1966 TV SHOW and MOVIE REPLICA PROPS – The Batzooka and Bat-Shield!

Check out these amazing replicas of a few props from the 1960’s BATMAN TV Show and Movie! Our Buddy “BatDave” is holding the BATZOOKA! It was originally seen in the 1966 Batman movie as a Batcharge Launcher, in the scene where Robin, The Boy Wonder, used it to fire at The Penguin Submarine!

Then, we have the BAT-SHIELD, held up by our Friend Louie! This “Weapon” appeared mainly on the Adam West and Burt Ward BATMAN TV Series. It protected Batman and Robin from harm caused by Villains!!

Both of these were made by Louie and you can see the love that went into them because they have such great detail! ( Thanks to BatDave for sharing this fun photo ).
