Harrison Ford Says He’s Up to Cracking Indy’s Whip One More Time

Indianajones4

We’ll be seeing a lot of Harrison Ford in the next couple of months as the marketing campaign gears up for the November 1st premiere of Harrison’s latest film role as Col. Hyrum Graff in Ender’s Game. These appearances and interviews will certainly turn to talk about Ford’s involvement in Star Wars: Episode VII and the chances we might see his other iconic character Professor Indiana Jones return to the big screen. Recently, Ford sat down with The Telegraph and had a few words about the possibility of a fifth movie in the Indy franchise.

We’ve seen the character develop and grow over a period of time and it’s perfectly appropriate and okay for him to come back again with a great movie around him where he doesn’t necessarily have to kick as much ass,tTo me, what was interesting about the character was that he prevailed, that he had courage, that he had wit, that he had intelligence, that he was frightened and that he still managed to survive. That I can do.

What do you think, can he do it again? Should he do it again after the last train wreck Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? Money wise it’s a no-brainer, Crystal Skull made$800 million dollars on a $180 million dollar budget even though the whole thing was a snooze-fest and any sequel will easily make back any investment costs.

Spielberg, when last asked about Indy 5 he said he had not found the Crystal Skull‘s stories “MacGuffin” satisfying and worried about the next movies story.

I sympathize with people who didn’t like the MacGuffin because I never liked the MacGuffin… George and I had big arguments about the MacGuffin. I didn’t want these things to be either aliens or inter-dimensional beings. But I am loyal to my best friend. When he writes a story he believes in – even if I don’t believe in it – I’m going to shoot the movie the way George envisaged it.

You have to ask George Lucas. George is in charge of breaking the stories. He’s done it on all four movies. Whether I like the stories or not, George has broken all the stories… He is working on Indy V. We haven’t gone to screenplay yet, but he’s working on the story. I’ll leave it to George to come up with a good story.

I’m betting that we’ll eventually see another Indy movie with Ford, then we’ll get a few years before the whole thing is rebooted with a new actor. [Allowing time for his latest role in The Expendables 3!]

Director Gavin Hood‘s Ender’s Game has released a new trailer onto the Internet, it’s got plenty of Harrison Ford as Col Hyrum Graff, Ben Kingsley as Mazer Rackman, and of course some Asa Butterfield as Ender. This time around the trailer focuses on the overall plot of the movie with some fantastic new looks at the space ships and battle effects we’re going to see.

So far what I’ve seen looks great, and I’m planning on seeing this in the theater that opening weekend. Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Ender’s Game hits theater screens on November 1st.

Harrison Ford Finds Himself at the Center of ‘Ender’s Game’ Controversy

Ender's Game (2013) trailer HARRISON FORD (Screengrab)

I think you have to feel sorry for anyone who has to go to Comic Con and front for Ender’s Game this weekend. The can of worms that the author of the original book Orson Scott Card following the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act is still fresh, and naturally, the cast of the upcoming movie has asked to answer for Card’s comments on the subject.

The scene was the press room at San Diego Comic-Con Thursday afternoon, and the player was acting legend Harrison Ford. Now, Ford can be somewhat prickly, but when asked about Card’s comments, and whether or not the author’s opinions influenced his decision to be a part of the film, he was very eloquent.

After deadpanning, “Is that question for me? That’s great,” he continued, “I think none of Mr. Card’s concerns regarding the issue of gay marriage are part of the thematics of this film. He has written something that I think is of value to us all [in] considering our moral responsibilities. I think his views outside of those that we deal with in this film are not an issue for me to deal with, so I have really no opinion on that issue. And I am aware of his statements admitting that the question of gay marriage is a battle that he lost, and he admits that he lost it.”

After a pause, Ford added, “I think we all know that we’ve all won, that humanity has won. And I think that’s the end of the story.”

When asked about the more specific themes of the book, Ford assured fans that when they see the movie they’ll recognize that the deeper moral lessons of the novel have been kept intact.

“This movie I think is very prescient, and I think the novel was very prescient, in recognizing something that we now have as a reality in our lives, which is the ability to wage war at a distance – and to do the business of war somewhat emotionally disconnected from it,” he explained. “So the morality of that military commander, and the military command structure – the morality of a society which raises a military and wages war – are the moral concerns of this film. They are something we are wrestling with daily in our lives. The issue of having interplanetary warfare is a science fiction aspect of it, but what gives it such emotional tone and reality is that these are the concerns of our everyday lives.”

There’s been a lot of talk about protests by LGBT groups concerning the film, and while I don’t think Ford doused that fire entirely, I think he spoke well and reminded everyone that Ender’s Game has nothing to due with gay marriage or civil rights, and deals with a whole other bailiwick and that perhaps we should keep Card’s comments, both inside and outside the particular text, as separate issues.

Ender’s Game opens November 1st. We’ll have more from Comic Con as it develops.

First Production Still Of Harrison Ford In ‘Ender’s Game’

There hasn’t been much marketing or publicity for director Gavin Hood‘s adaptation of Orson Scott Card‘s Ender’s Game. The “Official Production Blog” hasn’t had a new post since June 18th when principle filming completed. There’s no Facebook page, movie website, or even a poster yet. Don’t worry though, there’s still just under a year to go before the November 1st 2013 release date so I’m sure we’ll get plenty more soon. Until then, we’ll have to settle for enjoying the little things, like this still of Harrison Ford as:

Col. Hyrum Graff.

A colonel in the International Fleet and the commandant of the Battle School, Hyrum Graff pushes Ender to his limits. Graff seems cruel and overly demanding, stacking the odds against Ender at every opportunity and even putting the life of humanity’s greatest hope in danger, but he only seeks to prepare Ender for the unique situations he will have to face in the future war with the buggers.

Entertainment Weekly posted the photo and we’re happy to bring it to you.

Ender’s Game stars Asa Butterfield, Ben Kingsley, Harrison Ford, Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin, Viola Davis, Nonso Anozie, Stevie Ray Dillmore, Andrea Powell, Moises Arias, Conor Carroll, Aramis Knight, Brendan Meyer, Jimmy “Jax” Pinchak, Suraj Parthasarathy and Khylin Rhambo.

Ender’s Game synopsis:

In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he’s trained by Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.
