LEAST NERDY NEWS OF THE DAY: Ellen DeGeneres to Host Oscars for Second Time

s1.reutersmedia.net

Academy Awards producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced today that comedienne, actress, and TV personality Ellen Degeneres will return to host the Oscars for the second time Sunday March 2, 2014.

DeGeneres first hosted the awards back in 2007, for which she received a Primetime Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program.” (Honestly, I didn’t know you could win an award for hosting an awards show… huh.)

Ellen’s syndicated daytime talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, has earned her 45 Daytime Emmys over the course of its 10 year run. Her critically-acclaimed sitcom Ellen (originally called These Friends Of Mine) made her an international sensation when she came out as a lesbian onscreen and off in the show’s famous “Puppy Episode”.

Lately, she’s probably best known for her voice over work in PIXAR’s Finding Nemo as the adorable, yet forgetful blue tang, Dory. DeGeneres recently announced she’d be reprising this role in the long-awaited Nemo sequel: Finding Dory, due in theatres November 2015.

Here’s what Zadan and Meron had to say about the choice of DeGeneres for host:

We are thrilled to have Ellen DeGeneres host the Oscars. As a longtime friend, we had always hoped to find a project for us to do together and nothing could be more exciting than teaming up to do the Oscars. There are few stars today who have Ellen’s gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity. She is beloved everywhere and we expect that the audience at the Dolby Theatre, and in homes around the globe, will be as excited by this news as we are.

As for Ellen’s reaction?

I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time. You know what they say – the third time’s the charm.

Anyhoo, here’s her monologue from 2007, just to refresh everyone’s memory:
