Game Informer Halo Reach News Leaked…

S0 the January issue of Game Informer has already found it’s way to the internet via Before its news. And the issue is chiock filled with Halo news. Here’s a brief snap shot of the Halo Reach game – full of potential spoilers I might add. Also, I’m not trusting this 100 percent until I see it on Game Informer’s Halo Hub…. [update – looks pretty legit]

Game Informer Reach News, paraphrased by moi.

  • Reach will NOT follow the book, Fall of Reach.
  • Play as Spartan IIIs. Jorge is the only Spartan II on the team.
  • Carter 259 and Kat 320 are the only members of their original squad.
  • “Skull Face” now has a name, Emile 239.
  • The sniper is called Jun 266. He’s thoughtful and taciturn.
  • Lone Wolf may have his appearance changed a little.
  • Human Insurrectionists may from part of the plot.
  • Covenant soldiers are no longer heard to speak English, they speak in their own tounges.

Here’s a picture of the Skirmishers.

  • A new enemy like a Jackal has been introduced, named a “Skirmisher.” They are deadly and cunning enemies that attack in packs, and flank secure positions. Skirmishers are cousins, of a kind, to the Jackals.
  • Larger scale combat will be in Reach than in previous Halo games. 40 AI and 20 vehicles can be present at a time?!
  • Noble Team splits up at a point in the story, but it seems they soon get back together (Yay, I picked that one!)
  • Health Bar is back along with energy shield.
  • Single shot rifle like the Halo 2 E3 demo is in the game, named the Designated Marksman Rifle (DRM).
  • Needler Rifle is in the game, a mid-range headshot capable weapon.
  • Spike Grenades and Flame Grenades are out. Only frag and plasma grenades remain.
  • Helicopter Transport is called the Falcon.
  • Civillian vehicles are now drivable.
  • Assassinations are possible with a knife by holding down the melee button.
  • Sprinting is now possible through an equipment like mechanic.
  • Spirits, the Covenant drop ship in CE, return in Reach, alongside Phantoms.
  • Phantoms now have a flashlight.
  • All features from Halo 3 (Forge, Theatre, Co-Op) make a comeback along with several new ones.
  • We will be shown what Reach looks like before it is destroyed. We will see the levels of destruction progress as we get further through the game.

Well there you go, certainly some interesting factoids about Reach in there – no plot points really given away, it’s too early, anyway. Bungie and magazines will slowly release game info over the coming monthss. Stay tuned to Halo Reach Game News and we’ll bring you the best of it.

Reach’s Firefight Mode Confirmed

While we’ve been telling everyone that Firefight would be in Reach for months, with the release of the E3 promotional trailer, Bungie staff took the time to confirm that Reach has Firefight gameplay mode.

The following write up from IGN gives a fantastic insight and shows how innovative Bungie has been with their development of Reach:

“The Firefight multiplayer mode Bungie introduced in Halo 3: ODST

is back in Halo: Reach, and it’s looking to be even crazier (and more flexible) than its predecessor. At a special preview event at E3 2010, Microsoft and Bungie gave us a look at the new and improved Firefight. Here’s what’s new.

First off, you’ll get the full matchmaking experience here, unlike in ODST. You’ll be able to customize your matches to your heart’s content – weapons, maps, game durations and enemy behavior will all be tweakable.

There are multiple game types this time around, too. Default is the most general of the lot. It’s a one-set match that’s designed to be shorter and more casual. Pop in, pop out, go eat a steak. Classic mode is just what you played in ODST. You know, because it’s already classic. Generator Defense is also a mode in Firefight now (you remember this gametype from the Reach beta that ran last month), and a newcomer called Rocket Fight sounds like it could become a new favorite. This mode is just you, your buddies, armor abilities, and an infinite supply of rockets. Yeah, that just happened.

You’ll also have some new weapons to play with. The Target Locator may not have a sexy name, but it makes up for that by destroying the hell out of things. Use it to paint targets, and you’ll be rewarded by a bombardment by an orbiting fleet. Think Hammer of Dawn from Gears of War

mixed with the world’s scariest airstrike. And remember the Concussion Rifle from the latest campaign demo? It fires explosive plasma rounds, and it’s in Firefight, too. Deadly combination. And you can stop wondering – the Fuel Rod gun is back in Halo: Reach (and in Firefight).”

Rockets for the Thrashing!!
