And what’s worse, is when you realize they’re have got to be lady Predators, too. (I mean, how else do we get more Predators, right?) Director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) is making a movie about killer squirrels. Do you need to know any more? Okay then, here’s the synopsis,

When a young man’s estranged father is killed under suspicious circumstances, he returns home for the first time in years to get to the bottom of the mystery. Hoping to uncover some logical explanation, he instead finds his mom’s sleazy new boyfriend, a natural gas company buying up the town, an angry female sheriff who happens to be his ex-girlfriend, and an army of flesh-eating squirrels hellbent on destroying everything in their path due to an erosion of their food chain as a result of environmental destruction by the gas company.

What goes well with Star Wars? Beer. At least that’s what filmmaker Michael Cox is hoping because this latest project of his is a, “30 minute Australian Star Wars fan film, which answers the question: What would happen if you crossed Star Wars with an Australian beer commercial?” I know, right! Check out the trailer above and look for the complete film to release by the end of September.

Cope With Waiting for ‘The Winds of Winter’ by Reading an Excerpt From GRRM’s Latest ‘ASOIAF’ Short Story

targaryen

Obligatory outrage at author George R.R. Martin writing anything other than The Winds of Winter aside, that A Song of Ice and Fire prequel we reported he was working on earlier in the year now has a release date. On December 3rd, Dangerous Women, an anthology of short stories from several, well known genre authors, of which Martin is also an editor, is releasing from Tor. Martin’s contribution is a short story entitled, “The Princess and the Queen, or, The Blacks and the Greens,” and it serves as history of a very famous Westerosi event, the Dance of the Dragons.

The ASOIAF Wiki describes the Dance of Dragons as,

A war of succession between Aegon II and his half-sister Rhaenyra over their father Viserys I’s throne, the war was fought from 129AL to 131AL. It saw the deaths of both rival monarchs, and the crowning of Rhaenyra’s son Aegon III.

And yes, there will be a quiz.

On his Not A Blog, Martin describes his retelling of the events as,

A history (somewhat abridged) of the Dance of the Dragons, as set down by a maester of the Citadel.

To get your very first taste of Martin’s account of Maester Archmaester Gyldayn version of the events head on over to Tor.com for an excerpt. But if that’s not enough, Martin teases,

The full 80,000 word account of the Dance will eventually appear in a book, as yet untitled, that we’re calling the GRRMarillion.

Ha! GRRMarillion. Hope he’s copyrighted that.

Dangerous Women releases later this year on December 3rd, and unsurprisingly, Martin’s story, “The Princess and the Queen, or, The Blacks and the Greens” will be the final story in the anthology. Think you’ll be snagging a copy? Or are you patiently awaiting The Winds of Winter? Oh, who am I kidding!? Is there anyone waiting for The Winds of Winter, patiently?

SDCC ’13: Nerd Bastards Goes Inside Comic Con’s ‘Ender’s Game’ Experience

[Editor’s Note: Manny Lozano is one of Nerd Bastard’s embedded, roving, San Diego Comic Con journalists who will be pounding the convention center floor all weekend to bring you the very best Comic Con has to offer. From panels to the showroom to the off-site entertainment, we’re covering it all. First stop, Liongate’s Ender’s Game Experience!]

The Ender’s Game Experience at this year’s Comic Con brings you into the fantastic sci-fi world of the action film based on the best selling novel by Orson Scott Card, which lands in theaters this November 1st.

The exhibit showcases a variety of props from the film, including weapons and gadgets, as well as pieces of the actual sets from the Battle School in which much of the film is set. Several of the costumes worn by the film’s lead actors were also on display. Stars Asa Butterfield and Hailee Steinfeld were both on hand to kick off the festivities.

Giant Dragon Skull Found on Dorset Beach Celebrates ‘Game of Thrones’

gotskull2

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the beach after the Sharknado, a giant 40 foot dragon skull was discovered on the Charmouth Beaches of West Dorset, England’s Jurassic Coast. Forget about running into dragons on the beach, what about whatever ate that dragon to the bones? That’s what everyone should worry about.

The whole thing is an interesting marketing celebration of the addition of third season of Game of Thrones to the movie and TV streaming services of Blinkbox, on July 15th.

Ben Ayers of Blinkbox had this to say:

Game of Thrones is easily the most talked-about TV show of the moment, we wanted to mark its arrival on Blinkbox with a spectacle every bit as dramatic as this amazing series.

I love the whole idea, take a look at the gallery below to get an idea of the size and workmanship that went into the project. The Dragon Skull was created by a team of three and took over two months to construct and place.

Video Explains How To Register For SDCC Badge

comciconfansleftoutincold

In two days, on February 16, 2013–at 9:00 am PST, the nerd floodgates will open, and a large percentage of geekdom will descend upon the SDCC website, only one single thought repeating endlessly in their fevered brains:

“BAAAAADGESSSS!!!”

Indeed, the San Diego Comic-Con…our Mecca, our Mothership, our Devils Tower, is upon us once again.

Now, I’ve never been fortunate enough to attend, but from what I gather, Comic-Con season begins with this crazed rush to register for badges…there are millions of foaming nerds who want them, and only about 100,000 available.

Bit of a pickle, yes?

That’s why the SDCC has released this handy-dandy instruction video (below) to help you along with this seemingly brutal registration process. It’s just a simple tutorial–and it doesn’t offer any sneaky tricks that’ll help you get an edge on your rivals (er…fellow con-goers), but it should help prevent some basic registration snafus.

J.J. Abrams Explained His Star Wars “Mystery Box” All the Way Back in 2007!

jj_abrams_51826

J.J. Abrams has always had an air of mystery with his projects, always keeping something intentionally held back for the good of the viewing audience. It’s made his ideas heavily sought after and one of his best kept secrets is the “Mystery Box.”

Back in 2007 the director, prior to his hiring for Star Wars Episode VII and before his work reinventing the Star Trek universe, was a guest speaker at the Technology, Entertainment and Design conference, otherwise known as TED. Abrams gave a speech explaining his development for TV shows and movies, saying, “The intentional withholding of information is much more engaging,” and he used Star Wars as an example for this mystery box formula.

Want to hear the whole speech? Check out the full video after the jump.

If this doesn’t confirm Abrams as having some kind of Jedi powers, I don’t what will.

Nerd Art Dump: A ‘Hobbit’ Crossover, Boba Fett, and a Dog From the Future!

Each and every week we scour the Internet for nothing but the best in nerdy art. We leave no digital stone unturned, we poke and prod every nook and cranny of the Interwebz. Why? Because we love you, and we love to bring you weekly feed of nerd art. On with the dump!

J-Estacado must really love the work of famed pin-up artist Gil Elvgren, so much so that he made his own tribute piece to Gil with DC Comics Zatanna in place of Gil’s girls. He really nails it too, right down to the black negligee she has on in the tribute piece. Now that’s some real magic. [Nudity and Nerdery]

Hit the jump for the abominable snowman, puppies in costumes and moar.

One of the most popular shows of the last few years, Game of Thrones has been integrating into so many fan bases that it’s hard to keep count. Luckily, Miguel Lokia has saved the day with his series of “Houses” based on famous pop cultures characters, including Jack Sparrow and the House of House. They’re all great sounding houses, but you can’t beat House Lannister and the mighty Tyrion Lannister. [Geek-Art]

Bioware had a smash hit with Mass Effect 3, but they would shatter all records if they borrowed from Amales and released a bit of Mass Ferret DLC content. Just the promotional material alone would sell a couple hundred of those after which the sea of hate towards the ending will last for years. [Game Freaks]

Back when I was really young I was terrified of the abominable snowman in the Rudolph Christmas special, this piece by Chirstine Larsen cements my fear. Just seeing the look in that blood covered monsters eyes brings back so many bad memories. Show this to your kids if you’re looking to scare them into good behavior. [Comics Alliance]

This Hobbit/Sherlock crossover by Irise is just one of many that have been popping up since Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch were cast. With their connection to both we can be sure there’s going to be thousands more like this popping up in the next few years. [Deviant Art]

Bobba Fett is the galaxy’s best bounty hunter, especially when it comes to hunting down the ladies. Am I right? [Nerd Sexin’s]

Doctor Who is back in full force and ready for 2013 in a big way, so why not have ElectroCereal do amazing pieces for the Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Doctors just for the hell of it? With each drawing featuring it’s own Doctor, villains and famous companions each drawing is a refresher course in the who’s who of Doctor Who. Good luck saying that three times fast. [Geek Tyrant]

Skin-tight suit, check; Fuzzy white fur, check; the Black Cat is ready for another night of high class theft and criminal activity. Dan Don Fuga is pretty damn good at drawing the ladies of the Marvel universe. We’ll definitely have Don back on here again soon. [Tech Sergant Jenn]

Spoiler alert! This drawing by maruco sums up the first half of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit pretty nicely, lots of food and not enough action. If it wasn’t for the hope that The Hobbit will surely make up for itself next year, I would loath this piece.[Lado Inverso]

He’s come for Sarah Connor — and a squeaky toy. Brian Rubenacker must really like Boston Terriers, he’s featured the dog breed in a small series of portraits based on pop culture icons like the T-800 and Clockwork Orange’s Alex. Dogs love this man, but cats…we won’t even go there. [XombieDIRGE]

Nerdy Bits: Borderlands 2 Cosplay, TARDIS PC, Walking Dead as a Disney Movie, Hobbit: The Musical, and MOAR!

Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut. Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at nerdybits@nerdbastards.com.

ABOVE: Nebulaluben cosplaying as Lilith From Borderlands 2. Pretty girl and explosions, pretty much my two favorite things. [FashionablyGeek]

Frosty the LEGO man, was a jolly happy brick. With a rounded head and a long piece mouth and two eyes made of wheels.[ObviousWinner]

The TARDIS is a PC now, because PC’s are cool. With only a 500GB HD, however, you can’t even say it’s bigger on the inside. [NerdApproved]

A gingerbread hobbit-hole. To eat or not to eat that’s the question. [Nerdalicious]

This is either a British persons mouth, or Batman. Either way, someone needs to lay off the meth. [9gag]

Romulan Ale. While you might become hypnotized by its blue color, be warned: While there is no alcohol in the beverage, there ARE 84 mg of caffeine in each 8.4 oz. can.

What The Walking Dead would like like as a Disney film. Pretty bad-ass, if you ask me. [BuzzFeed]

Crash Bandicoot in real life. Because Super Mario in real life is too mainstream. [GeeksAreSexy]

LEGO stop motion expert Alex Kobbs’ entry to the 2012 Machinima Interactive Film Festival is made of a series of short sequences from Portal 2, mixed with a few amusing original scenes. [TheAwesomer]

Hobbit the musical. This actually came close to reconciling me to the fact there are three of them! Just as the musical said – “there’s never too much Middle Earth for me”. [Vulture]

Nerdy Bits: Get a Tentacle for Your Laptop, ‘Portal’ on a T1 Calculator, Dumb Ways to Die – In a Video Game, and MOAR!

Above: Oh, what, no big deal, just Matt Smith and Neil Gaiman grabbing breakfast together before they go watch the Doctor Who Christmas special. [The Mary Sue]

Again, no big deal, it’s just Bane and his son dressed as Batman. Wonder if Tom Hardy was a little upset his son didn’t want to buy his costume? [Fashionably Geek]

Though I fear this dress would be the worst at covering Rogue’s power sucking skin, it sure is sexy. Made-to-order from 4D/Supatex rubber and will be based on your exact size. You can also customize it with your choice of colors and texture. Pick one up here. [Fashionably Geek]

Simon Petrikov or rather, the Ice King from Adventure Time is cosplayed here by kill3rtcell, and photographed by nahashon. Fantastic alternative to the blue moo moo, err, “wizard robes.” [Comics Alliance]

Because, why not? You need a squirming tentacle for your laptop. Grab on at Think Geek. Via the Laughing Squid, appropriately.

Taking tattoos to a whole new level is this Yoda who GLOWS UNDER A BLACKLIGHT. How crazy is this? Crazy awesome, I mean. It was inked by tattoo artist Kenneth Bryan of Intimate Body Art Studios. [Geekologie]

Why, oh why wasn’t this around when I was stuck in math class with no smart phone, no iPad, no DS or whatever other gadgets kids have. All I had was a T1 calculater, and I sure as hell couldn’t play Portal on it. Available to download. [Kotaku]

It’s Gandalf, on a unicycle, playing bagpipes. You’re welcomes. Though you should really be thanking The Unipiper. [The Mary Sue]

Nerd Bastards 12 Days of Christmahanakwanzika – Day 6

While the flux-capacitor hasn’t been perfected, and we can’t help you fix any past holiday humbuggery, maybe we can help you get this holiday season off to a good start.

For the next 12 days (Dec 1st-12th), the staff of Nerd Bastards will be listing a few of their favorite nerdy things. Gadgets, doohickeys, thingamabobs and more – all sorts of items that have been Nerd tested and Bastard approved. Basically, stuff you want, things you need, and everything you can’t have.

We hope you’ll find some unique and nerdtastic gifts among our selections, and that they make their way under your tree, Menorah or Kwanzaa bush.

Hit the jump for Jason McAnelly’s list of Nerdful things. Check back tomorrow for Mark Poynter’s list. To see archive of this feature, click HERE.

1) ‘Street Fighter’ T-shirt – Yoga Flame-Grilled BBQ:

This t-shirt brings me back to the days when I used to cruise down to my local arcade and plug quarters into the Street Fighter stand-up game. Some of you may not remember such places, but let me assure you that they did exist. And if ever a character deserved to get out of the fighting lifestyle and start up a successful restaurant, it’s Dhalsim. It’s practical, it’s affordable and it’s available through society6 – just $15 bucks.

2) ‘Imperial Damacy’ T-shirt

I don’t care what anyone says, stormtrooper + katamari = best thing ever. Another t-shirt, this gift is for those that love the geek in their life, but not enough to pay more than $22 for a present. Also available through society6.

3) Deckard Replica Trenchcoat

Replicas are usually pretty fkn expensive, but they are equally awesome. This trenchcoat, modeled after the one Deckard wore in Blade Runner, kicks major ass. If you have the $499 to spend and think you know someone who can pull it off, buy it over at abbyshot. They also have some pretty cool other stuff, if trenchcoats aren’t your thing.

4) Cthulhu Dice Bag

The Cthulhu dice bag is a perfect gift for the gaming geek that has an affinity for our dark lord and master. There’s no evidence, but I have it on good authority that the bag will cause your d20s to roll more crits. You can purchase it through amazon for the random amount of $21.76.

5) ‘Team Dexter’ Beer Stein

It’s pretty much a given that a large portion of the geek population are also alcoholics. So why not display your addiction to Dexter while getting drunk? You can calmly sip your drink while you plan out who you’re going to stalk that night. Just head over to cafepress and pick one up for $20.50. Also available in many other Dexter-themed logos.

6) Action Figure Field Bag

The message on this field bag says it all. Any collector would be proud to own this, assuming they were proud of their action figure collection, that is. Also available in other varieties of packs, to match your outfit. Buy at cafepress for $29.50.

7) McFarlane’s Walking Dead Figures

I have to admit, I’m not much of a big action figure guy these days. I loved my old Star Wars and He-Man figures “back in the day”, but quality leaves something to be desired with recent products. McFarlane’s stuff, however, is still some of the best on the market if you’re looking for detail. These Walking Dead figures are just pretty and to start a collection off you can get a five-set for just $104.99 at toywiz.

8) PKE Meter Replica

With all this talk about a Ghostbusters 3, I thought it only appropriate that one on this list be themed to that old classic franchise. The PKE Meter Replica may not help you in detecting ghosts, but it looks good sitting on a shelf or mounted on the wall. Of course, it’ll cost you $109.99 over at bidbadtoystore, but good replicas are always worth it.

9) Mojowijo

Ever been sitting around the house and had to ask yourself “Sex or video games?” Yes, it’s a dilemma that most people face in their lives, some of us on a daily basis. Now, you can have the best of both worlds! The Mojowijo is a sex toy that hooks up to your Wii controller. Both “his” and “hers” are available and you can even play against your significant other (or random strangers?) online. Check out the Mojowijo website for product details and pricing.

10) EmeraldCityComicon Tix

I have saved the best for last – a present that crosses boundaries of age, gender, race, species and all that other stuff. Emerald City Comicon tickets! This coming year the event is taking place from March 1st to the 3rd and will be hosting names such as Patrick Stewart, Adam West and Gillian Anderson. It’s just $65.00 for all three days (though expect to pay 5 times that for a hotel room). You can grab a ticket over at the ECC website.

Nerd Bastards 12 Days of Christmahanakwanzika – Day 4

Hit the jump for Sarah Moran’s list of Nerdful things. Check back tomorrow for Regina Lizik’s list. To see archive of this feature, click HERE.

As nerds, we like to put a twist on almost everything. Which is why, sure, a frying pan is something every kitchen shouldn’t be without, but frying pans are boring. You need a set of pots and pans with sword hilts! Combat Kitchenware is a Kickstarter campaign and they’re goal has already been surpassed. You can still get a variety of pan sizes through donating either $27 for a handle kit to craft your own up to a $275 donation which would get you a customized handle on your pan.

Mornings are hard. That’s why there’s tea, or coffee, or Irish coffee, or maybe you forget the coffee and just drink the whiskey straight. I’m not judging. But I do suggest your check our these funny, geeky, and sometimes wrong mug cozies from KnotworkShop on Etsy. Besides the awesome Jaws quote above, there are Doctor Who cozies, including a pair labeled “Doctor” and “Companion,” words and phrases like “”, “don’t panic”, “I’m a fucking professional!”, and “I am blogging this.” Basically, I dare you to look through the collection and tell me you can’t find a mug cozie you or someone you know would love to have for a mere $13-$25.

Never be accidentally walked in upon again! With this Star Trek-inspired door chime you’ll be alerted whenever anyone crosses the threshold into your room or office. Can be set with either the door opening sound effect or the Red Alert alarm. Also, now on sale at Think Geek for only $19.99!

I just love all of Funko’s Pop! vinyl figures. I have a Joker figure on my coffee table right now. The line only keeps growing with The Walking Dead‘s Daryl joining in January. Available now on Entertainment Earth are characters from Game of Thrones, The Hobbit, DC and Marvel superheroes, Disney characters, and many more. All for only $9.99!

No matter how often DC likes to change her outfit or alter her origin, Harley Quinn is still my girl. But that doesn’t mean I’d buy a statue of her wearing anything besides her original, sexy, classy, and let’s be honest, practical for her line of work, leotard. This latest Bishoujo Statue, available at Entertainment Earth for $54.99, is too cute to pass up.

And speaking of cute, you couldn’t go wrong with these apron pinafores from DarlingAmy‘s Etsy shop. Perfect for either the kitchen or convention floor she’s got a designs from Doctor Who, Star Wars, Legend of Zelda, Adventure Time, and more. Ranging from about $65 t0 $100 these sadly won’t be available in time for Christmas, but knowing this is what you’re waiting for, I think it’s okay.

The only thing I want more than this Portal customizable Aperture Labs handheld portal device is an actual working Aperture Labs handheld portal device. This non-working model is available at Entertainment Earth for $99.99, but I’m sure with some tweaking you might be able to get the thing shooting portals. Maybe. For Science!

I bought myself this set during a Black Friday sale, but still, if you don’t yet own a full set of The Lords of the Rings trilogy this is the best bang for your buck. It’s got everything: the extended edition of all three films plus all of the special features and appendices ever released. It’s 15 discs for only $55.99 on Amazon.

Also available on Amazon is this new box set of the first six volumes of the Sailor Moon manga. Newly translated and restored, the manga is a true classic and surprisingly different from the anime series. With a new anime releasing next year it’s the perfect time to check out the manga that started it all. Only $40.86!

And lastly, a lightsaber. Who hasn’t always wanted one? Nobody, that’s who. You offer someone a lightsaber and you will have their eternal gratitude. Think Geek has these authentic replicas licensed from Lucasfilm for $119.99. But if you’re looking for something with a more personal touch there’s a variety of custom shops including Ultra Sabers and Saber Forge.

Above: The bidding may have ended for this bit of Wil Wheaton memorabilia – earning a total of $1,035.00 for charity! – but that doesn’t mean you can’t share in the story. See, Wheaton was autographing this card for a friend when with a swipe of the marker he drew a big, ugly line across his face. To rectify it he added sunglasses and the requisite, “Yeeaahh!” WIN. [Nerd Approved]

Relive Nintendo’s history with this sweet remix of their classic video games. It’s Nintendope by Reverse Enginears Labs. [TDW]

Do you remember when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles formed a band and went on the the “Coming Out of Their Shells Tour”? It was delightfully 80s, let’s put it that way. Here’s Spinter’s memorable tune, “Skipping Stones.” [Nerdist]

Speaking of Nerdist, Just Cos was at this year’s Dragon*Con and are finally revealing their report. What did they uncover? Well, there is some of the best cosplay around but even more prevelant? The booze.

And speaking of cosplay, this video shot and edited by Yung Lee doesn’t only feature great costumes but everyone involved is turned into a kick ass action star. Can we get more cosplay videos like this, please? [Geek Tyrant]

The UK film/TV production company Infinite Wisdom (in association with SONY and GoPRO) made this film, Peter Parkour, to commemorate The Amazing Spider-Man release. The message, I’m guessing, is learn enough parkour and you too can Spider-Man. [Laughing Squid]

And now from down under – though this time New Zealand – the weather, presented in Elvish and including a weather update for Hobbiton. These people are really rallying behind this franchise, and I love it. [Geekologie]

YouTuber Erin Stevenson took the audio of The Hobbit trailer, added the visuals of Adventure Time, and what we get is this rad re-imagining of Bilbo’s adventures through Finn the Human. Honestly, I’m a little surprised we haven’t seen anything like this from Adventure Time, officially.[The Mary Sue]

Nerd Art Dump: Mary Jane and Gwen Fight for Spider-Man, The Kid Version of ‘FireFly’, Famous Characters as Cartoons & MOAR!

Each and every week we scour the Internet for nothing but the best in nerdy art. We leave no digital stone unturned, we poke and prod every nook and cranny of the Interwebz. Why? Because we love you, and we love to bring you weekly feed of nerd art. On with the dump!

Can there be just one single moment when these two are alone where they don’t fight over Spider-Man, even a plush version of the wall crawler? Guess not, but at least they know all sleep over fights must be done in your pajamas. *Special Note: If you know who drew this please tell us, we’ll credit them. [Hybrid Waste]

Hit the jump for Super Emo Friends, the Deadpool/Bobba Fett team up and MOAR.

Halo 4 is out and it gave Zac Gorman an excuse to draw this awesome piece summing up what most players are doing on Xbox live right now. It just looks so peaceful, you’d never guess they just finished shooting their own team mates. [Magical Game Time]

Oh my Goooooooooooooood! -this is a brilliant piece of work from Justin White, featuring several characters and scenes from classic movies and TV series re-imagined as cartoons. If you’re around the Gallery 1988 Melrose in Los Angeles this coming Friday go take a look, see how many movies you can pick out. [Geek Tyrant]

This female Thor comes courtesy of CG artist hansanhan, rocking a little less armor then any warrior of Asgard would casually ride into battle on. Seriously, it is cold in Jotunheim, put on a hoody or something. [Geek Tyrant]

The United Kingdom has some talent over there and Monster Tree Art has been sneaking by with awesome pieces like this floating around the Internet. McFly should have really know better to have used a hover board on the water though. If you’re interested this sweet piece of Back to the Future art is for sale, with all profits going to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. [Garabating]

There’s no doubt about it; Firefly and it’s fan base of “Brown Coats” are cool, but these “Brownie Coats” are freaking adorable. Patrick Ballesteros shrunk the cast down to children playing with a homemade Serenity made out of a junked car. It almost makes you want to force Fox to bring it back for another season. [Geek Tyrant]

Marco D’alfonso has put a great spin on the Disney purchase of LucasFilm. Now that the mouse owns Star Wars and Marvel Comics we can soon expect the Boba Fett/Deadpool crossover we never knew we wanted. [Deviant Art]

No, Sakura didn’t break into Ryu’s room and steal his clothing, this is Ryu – an alternate female version of the Street Fighter star. A part of a series by ZWY-001, this guy has taken several fighters from the series and flipped their gender in a pretty cool style with some a little more eye popping then the others. [Geek Tyrant]

Artist JSalvador has turned some of pop cultures saddest moments and characters into an ever-growing cast of ”Super Emo Friends”. It’s hard to have hatred towards a character when they look so damn peaceful and little, like Kevin Spacey here in Se7en. [Super Emo Friends]

I don’t think there’s much to say about this one, Brett Parson just wanted to say thanks for making the 80s’ so awesome. [Deviant Art]

Forget Brotherly Love, Run for Your Life in The Walking Dead Escape!

At this year’s San Diego Comic-con, fans of Robert Kirkman‘s The Walking Dead were part of an experience like no other. In celebration of the comic’s 100th issue of blood splattering gore, San Diego’s Petco Park – or at least a portion of it – was transformed into a full out zombie obstacle course.

This experience, the Walking Dead Experience, gave everyone a chance to be a survivor, a walker, or if you knew you’d be zombie chow, you could be a spectator. Nerd Bastards’ own Dev Richards was heroic, testing her skills (which you can read about here) on the course dodging walkers and fellow contestants. Thankfully, nobody was shot in the leg and left for bait (though Dev did shave her head in the days following) and the event was a success, but after SDCC it disappeared.

Now, on Saturday October 27th Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Wells Fargo Center Complex will be host to The Walking Dead: Escape. Here’s the first look at all the details:

The virus has spread. We urge you to warn your East Coast friends of the uncertainty, chaos and terror that lies ahead. The quickest will offer their training tips. The brightest will share their strategy plans. The boldest will journey back to the undead-zone and fight as a team in the SURVIVOR SHOWDOWN for the chance to win $2,500. How will you leave your mark on the Philly Apocalypse? THE CHOICE IS YOURS

Do you think you have what it takes to outlast your fellow survivors? Then register now, because on the 26th from 6pm to 12am it’s your chance to win some cold hard cash – or register to be a cold heartless walker instead if your willing. Best of luck to everyone though, your going to need it.

Ask the Bastards #8: Remaking ‘Ghostbusters,’ Blue Yoshi and Which Bastard Reigns Supreme

Hello, and welcome to another astoundingly cheeky edition of Ask the Bastards, the weekly feature where we answer crazy questions that you people dared to ask us. This week we’re talking remakes, the best version of the Hulk, Yoshi, Dredd and which Nerd Bastard is the best Nerd Bastard.

All of our previous installments are available right here. And, if you’ve got a question for us, be sure to Like Us on Facebook or Follow Us on Twitter. We put out the call for questions every week, so wait for your chance to shine.

Which hulk was better? Avengers or incredible hulk? – Bryan

I like Mark Ruffalo’s performance in The Avengers, and I like how he got to play both Banner and the Hulk (thanks to the miracle of motion capture) in the film. Still, what I appreciated about The Incredible Hulk was that it went into how Banner copes with being the Hulk: the meditation, the breathing, the heart monitor, even the deleted scenes of therapy with Doc Samson. It’s nearly a draw, but I give the edge to The Incredible Hulk. – Adam A. Donaldson

Avengers, because Ruffalo nailed Banner so very well, and I feel like Whedon understood the Hulk perfectly. I’m watching The Avengers as I type this, and the things Ruffalo’s doing with his posture, with his eyes, they’re astounding me. – Matthew Jackson

What’s your favorite character you don’t like to admit you like? – B.J.

Batzarro, world’s worst detective. Batzarro, as far as I know, has only been in the comics. He should have had some kind of cameo or reference in either of Rocksteady’s Batman games. Not doing so was a lost opportunity, IMO. – Nick Bungay

I’m always happy to admit just about any character is a favorite. I do spend way too much time defending the merits of Aquaman, though. – Matthew Jackson

Super mario world- SNES….. how do i make a blue yoshi? – Tyler

Erotic asphyxiation. – Mark Poynter

Take a little LSD. You’ll be seeing blue, alright… and a whole spectrum of other trippy colors. You’ll hear them as well. Note: DO NOT PLAY Super Mario while on LSD. Unless, of course, you want to die. Then have at thee. –Luke Gallagher

Who on your team is the most awesome? – Cody

Luke, head of Nerd Bastards. Because he gave me, a guy with no professional writing experience, a chance to express my nerdy sensibilities on a daily basis. Three years later, and I’m still having some of the most fun I’ve had on Internet since discovering the humorous world of “Rule 34″. – Nick Bungay

I expect all the NB writers to answer this question accordingly. Feed my ego, they will. – Luke Gallagher

Me. – Jason Tabrys

Wilford Brimley – Matthew Jackson

While the new Star Trek reboot (or whatever you want to call it) has been well received, just how far do you think they should go with it? Would you want to see a new cast take on TNG? – Alex

I was very satisfied with J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek. To me, it and The Avengers are the two of the best summer movies to be released in the last five years. Having said that, I think there’s plenty of stories left in the Star Trek universe that we can avoid endless, repetitive remakes of every Star Trek incarnation. I’d hate to be typing here in 30 years about the casting rumors for the Enterprise remake (Justin Bieber as Ambassador Soval?). Having said that, so long as the stories being told are well-written, nuanced, and with a fine dose of sci-fi action and adventure, I’m down for Trek in any incarnation. – Adam A. Donaldson

I agree with Adam. It’s a big universe, and while I’m not necessarily interested in six more adventures following young Kirk and the gang, I am interested in where the Star Trek milieu as a whole will go next. But, even with my love for the new movie universe, I’d like to see a return to TV more than anything else. – Matthew Jackson

How do you think Ant-Man will be when it comes out? am I the only one who thinks its fucking retarded? – Dylan

Of course you think it’s retarded right now, even I think it is, but that’s because we’re basing our opinions on concept alone. On paper, the story of an incredible shrinking man who fights crime is pretty lame. But, a lot of things sound dumb on paper. Think of The Avengers for example (the movie). A Norse god, a metal man, a green monster and an 80 year old virgin team up to save the planet from an alien invasion. Try selling that concept to any non comic-book person and they’ll stare at you blankly! Naturally, The Avengers became the 3rd highest grossing movie of all time, so what does that tell you? Point is, it’s what filmmakers and actors do with the material that matters. And, right now it’s too soon to pass judgement on Ant-Man.

Does Ant-Man really need a solo film? Probably not. Wouldn’t he be better served having a cameo in another film and then be added into Avengers 2? Perhaps. I’ll tell you what, though, the idea of Edgar Wright making a film based on it sounds like it could be awesome. – Luke Gallagher

You’re not the only one who thinks that, but I’ve always had love for Ant-Man, and I’m confident in Edgar Wright’s ability to translate that to the screen. Then again, I’m a comic book fan. I’m used to accepting crazy things. – Matthew Jackson

Do you think that Ghostbusters should be remade and if it were up to you who would you cast in the new film? Also would you agree that there should be a live action Thundercats movie? – Matthew

I’d rather see a transition movie where the reins are handed from the original cast to a younger set of Ghostbusters. Any sequel will probably continue to be stranded in limbo until a couple of the original actors die, then there will be no choice except a reboot. Live Action Thundercats movie? I’d rather see it on Broadway as a musical, just make a couple of changes to the CATS production and your golden. – Mark Poynter

I think what Mark says is bang-on, the remake or part 3 question will be debated till one or two cast members pass on. As for who might be cast in a remake, that’s a tougher question. Those people will be focus grouped until the cows come home, but what I will say is that the reason Murray/Aykroyd/Ramis worked so well together is past experience working with each other whether its Saturday Night Live or Stripes. So chemistry’s definitely a factor. And yes on Thundercats movie, but only if Linkin Park does a cover of the theme song.

I invoke rule 34 on both. –Luke Gallagher

Please let’s not remake that one. Please oh please. Even if I admitted that there’s potential for more fun to be head (and I’m not admitting that now), I don’t want to see it without Bill Murray. As for Thundercats, bring it on. – Matthew jackson

Will you marry me? – Jennifer

As a group? I’m gonna say NO, because I’d probably get stuck doing the laundry while some other NerdBastard gets all the fun kinky duties. – Mark Poynter

Absolutely! Yay bigamy! – Adam A. Donaldson

Depends. Will you love me, feed me and never leave me? – Luke Gallagher

I could totally go for having a sister wife. I’ll have to ask my fiancee first. – Nick Bungay

In the words of the great sonic philosophers of our time: “I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly. I don’t think you’re ready… cause my body’s too bootyliscious for ya babe.” Thanks for asking though and please, please stay groovy. – Jason Tabrys

To what do you attribute the bombing of Dredd 3D? – Jan

Surprisingly, I think that the stink of the first Judge Dredd movie is still on it, 17 years later. My local TV entertainment reporter called Dredd 3-D “the remake of the 1995 Sylvester Stallone film,” which if I didn’t know better would probably make me think twice about seeing it. Still, what’s ultimately the attribution is that Judge Dredd is a cult comic from the U.K., so thus only a small base genuinely gets excited about it. Maybe we’re just not as Dredd-crazy as fans hope here in North America. – Adam A. Donaldson

A shocking lack of Rob Schneider. – Jason Tabrys

Adam’s got a lot of the factors right. Even if you don’t read comics, you know who Captain America is, but Dredd is harder for the general moviegoing public to grasp. Add to that a lack of major stars (Urban’s great, but he’s not Robert Downey Jr.) and a sense that this movie was going to be more about darkness and less about Avengers-style fun, and you get underwhelming box office performance. It’s a shame, but no one ever said moviegoers were the smartest of consumers. – Matthew Jackson
